Buyer beware?

Caveat Emptor generally applies to commercial transactions such as property purchases. However the recent embarrassing fiasco around the Onkaparinga Council decision to appoint Alastair Dawson as their CEO begs a number of “in principle” related questions.

First and fundamental – what due diligence and risk management considerations were built into the process?
Second but not secondary – what criteria were applied during the process?
Third, what community engagement and consultation processes advised and were integrated into the identification and application of decision criteria?
Fourth and final, there is plenty of freely available “101” decision making advice around the traps, so one can only hope this instance is an isolated rather than an illustrative example.
